Access keys

Skip navigation

A skip navigation facility has been provided on this site for the benefit of users with screen readers.

It can be implemented by using the skip navigation access key combination Alt and S.

Implementing skip navigation on any given page allows you to bypass the navigation areas and go directly to that page's main content.

Access keys

The following access keys are active on all pages of this website (for users of Internet Explorer 5 and above.):

Alt and s then ENTER - Skip navigation
Alt and q then ENTER - Skip to secondary navigation
Alt and p then ENTER - Privacy statement
Alt and 0 then ENTER - Access key details
Alt and 1 then ENTER - Home page
Alt and 2 then ENTER - Feedback form
Alt and 3 then ENTER - Site map
Alt and 8 then ENTER - Terms & conditions

Cross browser support

Use of access keys differs according to browser:

Internet Explorer 5+:

Hold down the Alt key and select the number/letter of the access key, then press ENTER

Internet Explorer 4:

Hold down the Alt key and select the number/letter of the access key

Internet Explorer 5+ for Mac:

Hold down the CTRL key and select the number/letter of the access key

Internet Explorer 4.5 for Mac:

Access keys are not supported

Mozilla:

Hold down the Alt key and select the number/letter of the access key

Netscape 6+:

Hold down the Alt key and select the number/letter of the access key

Netscape earlier versions:

Access keys are not supported
